Usage

Fluocinonide ranks as a "high-potency" corticosteroid.
Fluocinonide is an anti-inflammatory agent for skin disorders.

What is the fluocinonide?

Fluocinonide (Fluonex, Lidex, Lidex-E, Lonide, Lyderm, and Vanos) is a potent glucocorticoid used topically as an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of skin disorders such as eczema and seborrhoeic dermatitis. It relieves itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort.

The usual prescription concentration is 0.05% as a topical cream, ointment, solution, or gel. The application area should normally not be covered after application. In certain cases, the physician may recommend the use of an occlusive dressing after application to increase the rate and depth of absorption. The frequency of application depends on the condition being treated and the area affected, but most often it should be applied 2 to 4 times a day.

Fluocinonide ranks as a "high-potency" (second-highest rank) topical corticosteroid. Minimal amounts should be used for a minimal length of time to avoid the occurrence of adverse effects.

Fluocinonide is used in veterinary medicine. It is a treatment for allergies in dogs.Natural systemic cortisol concentrations can be suppressed for weeks after one week of topical exposure.

How to Use Fluocinonide?

Fluocinonide comes in ointment, cream, solution, and gel in various strengths for use on the skin.

It usually is applied two to four times a day.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

Use fluocinonide exactly as directed.

Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Avoid prolonged use on the face, in the genital and rectal areas, and in skin creases and armpits unless directed by your doctor.

Application

Fluocinolone acetonide is a synthetic, fluorine-containing potent steroid. Topical administration of it can cause dermal capillary contraction and can inhibit epidermal cell proliferation or regeneration, inhibit the newborn of the fibroblast cells inside the connective tissue and stabilize the intracellular lysosomal membrane with anti-inflammatory and anti-itching effect.

Fluocinolone acetonide is mainly used for the treatment of skin diseases to which glucocorticoid is effective such as contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, dermatitis, eczema (especially infant eczema), pruritus disease, psoriasis, discoid lupus erythematosus, lichen planus, otitis externa and so on. Its combination with neomycin and other antibiotics can be used for the treatment of suppurative skin disease.

Apply 0.025-0.05% ointment, lotion for scrubbing the affected area with 2-3 times per day. You can gently knead and make it be incorporated into the skin.
